Fasting

I imagine that we all know the huge benefits to the eyes and body in following a fresh food diet.  I've just been reminded, in re-reading Harry Benjamin's excellent book, "Better Sight Without Glasses, of the benefits of fasting.  Benjamin was a trained Naturopath and Vision Educator, and in his words, " The increased elimination induced by the fast has the effect of unlocking the accumulated stores of waste products which have been clogging the muscles and blood-vessels surrounding the eyes,…See More

"Margaret Corbett's book is my 'bible';  I love everything in it!  If you enjoy massaging your eyes, I think you'll benefit, and if you palm right after that it seems to extend the relaxing effect. :)"

"Yes, in fact I did start with a folded cold washcloth - it was effective in the way described, and I guess I thought I would try to take it up a notch with icepacks.  Thanks for the acupressure suggestion, I am going to try it as well.  At…"

"I have several clients who use a folded cold washcloth over closed eyes in the evening as a way to refresh eyes.  Splashing closed eyes with cold water in the morning has the same effect and also has an effect on clarity.  I have no…"

"Hi Markus, And thanks so much for your comment and of course you're right! - it's in the practice of palming that we get the results and feel that (very difficult to describe) energetic communication between our body and eyes, through our…"

"Joy! What a great article! Since many years I think about what's the clue about palming and did my own experiments about it. Like comparing the effect of putting something warm and wet to cover my eyes instead. Or just by looking into the dark…"

Talking About Energy

I wrote a guest blog for someone recently about improving eyesight, and later, received a very critical comment.  (This was a good thing, because these critics keep me on my toes!)  Anyway, in the article, I described how to palm the eyes, and mentioned that as a preliminary to palming, we should "rub the hands together until they are warm and full of energy".The reader reacted to the word, "energy" and basically asked what in the world I was talking about! Well, yes. I took some time to ponder…See More

"Hi Mr. Cook, and thanks for your comments ... I was outlining one type of case that I've witnessed several times, where sad emotions seem to get "locked into" a child's eyes, but of course that doesn't explain away every…"

"Joy, what if I have no memory of clear distance eyesight?  When I first got lenses they were a revelation to me, as they were to my older brother and sister, and would be to our two younger sisters and youngest brother - all of us born before…"

SURVEY QUESTIONS

Here are 60 basic questions for myopes (nearsighted, or 'closed eye' in ancient Greek) to answer.  Any myope who answers them may develop improved eyesight if they only wear their prescription lenses when safety is an issue:

1) What decade were you born in?

2) Where were you born (city, state, country)?

3) Were you born in a hospital (from birth certificate or anecdote)?

4) Time of birth (from birth certificate or anecdote):

I was driving to work again this morning thinking again about the changes in the past century or more. I turned off the radio and slowed to a crawl. A trot really as it was what I thought would be a horses pace. The majority of society had been rural and agricultural not urban industrial. The tendency I think is to look across the field or down the road and a childs eyes would have gotten that daily exersize as they plodded along from point to point or worked in the field. In the city I…
